Sa Ingles, kilala ito bilang “Nipa Hut,” na tumutukoy sa mga dahon ng nipa o anahaw na kadalasang ginagamit para sa bubong nito. Mahalaga rin ang kawayan at niyog bilang materyales sa paggawa nito. Iba-iba ang mga disenyo at istilo ng paggawa ng katutubong bahay na ito sa buong Pilipinas na mayroong mahigit na 7000 isla.
